The period of the Middle Ages, ie, from the collapse of the Western Roman Empire to the Turkish occupation, was also the time of great migration of the nations and the arrival of the Slavs in our region.

At the entrance to the present parish church of Sv. Francis of Assisi as the date of their arrival in the area of the parish of Mahovljani in memorial stone was engraved September 20 1883. The first vineyards appeared in the Zupa part with the arrival of Slovenians around 1930. Slovenians showed native people planting and cultivation of the vine and benefits of grapes. The villagers began to prune their underbrush and coppice themselves and turn them into vineyards. The first mentioned varieties are those of white director and black scents. At that time during the Vrbas County courses for winegrowers were organized. Unfortunately, half of the vineyards were destroyed in World War II and what was left was destroyed due to tax levies.
